Lionel Messi shares a tight bond with his older brothers Rodrigo and Matías and younger sister María Sol.
In fact, the Inter Miami FC star's entire family is close-knit and involved in his athletic career. Before Lionel left for Spain as a teenager, he lived with his three siblings and parents, Jorge Messi and Celia Cuccittini, in Rosario, Argentina.
Though the brothers have all started families of their own — and Lionel became one of the best soccer players in history and tied with Cristiano Ronaldo for six World Cup tournament appearances — the siblings have remained close.
Both Rodrigo and Matías have helped Lionel with the practical side of his career. Meanwhile, María Sol had a leadership role at The Messi Store before joining her brother's production company, 525 Rosario.
In December 2018, Lionel told Marca, "I love football, and I live for it, but family is above all." He added that he and his family always try to return to Argentina for special occasions like Christmas.
Here's everything to know about Lionel Messi's siblings: Rodrigo, Matías and María Sol.

Lionel and his siblings all grew up in Rosario, a city 186 miles northwest of Buenos Aires, with their father, Jorge, and mother, Cuccittini.
They lived in a two-story home on the Calle Lavalleja, a residential area of the city near the Parana River, per The Athletic.
The family enjoyed soccer, and Lionel played the sport with his brothers as a child.
When he joined FC Barcelona, Lionel's family — including all three siblings — joined him for a while before Cuccittini, Rodrigo, Matías and María Sol returned to Argentina, leaving Jorge to stay with Lionel in Spain.

Rodrigo has worked with Jorge, who's been Lionel's agent since he was 14, by looking after the soccer pro's schedule and publicity as the director of Leo Messi Management.
Meanwhile, his mom and Matías have helped manage the Leo Messi Foundation and handled some of his personal affairs.

Like her brother, María Sol's partner is a childhood friend. She has been engaged to Julian "Tuli" Arellano, with whom she grew up in the La Bajada neighborhood of Rosario, since January 2024, according to Marca.
Arellano also shares a connection with Lionel: Inter Miami FC. He's a coach of the club's under-19 team.
The pair were set to tie the knot in Rosario in January 2026. However, they had to postpone their wedding after María Sol suffered serious injuries in a car accident in Miami in December 2025, reported Hola!.

In September 2024, Lionel launched a production company called 525 Rosario. That December, María Sol was announced as the company's Senior Director of Brand Strategy and Creative. Per Deadline, her role leading brand strategy for content production and corporate initiatives began in January 2025.
Previously, María Sol was the Chief Creative Officer at Stars Connections and the Brand Manager of Lionel's fashion brand The Messi Store, where she worked alongside Creative Director Virginia "Ginny" Hilfiger, fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger's sister.
"It is a dream come true," María Sol said when The Messi Store was announced, per Sports Illustrated'sSPORT. "Fashion is what I like the most, ever since I was a child, and it was always a dream of mine to be involved with a clothing brand. I studied a lot to dedicate myself to this profession. When an opportunity such as this one presents itself, you have to take advantage of it."
María Sol also collaborated with Bikinis Rio to create a capsule swimsuit collection in January 2022.

Lionel isn't the only professional athlete in the family — cousins Maxi and Emanuel Biancucchi also played soccer. Cuccittini's sister's sons grew up playing the sport with Lionel and his brothers.
Both are now retired. Maxi was a forward for teams in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Paraguay, while Emanuel was a midfielder for teams in Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Spain and Germany.
