A cause of death has been revealed for RuPaul’s Drag Race musician and on-air personality Lucian Piane.
After Entertainment Weekly obtained a Los Angeles County Medical Examiner record indicating that the star died Monday at age 46, the office confirmed that he died from “blunt trauma,” with the manner of death listed as an accident.
Unconfirmed reports indicated that Piane was hit by a car in Los Angeles, though EW couldn’t verify the information at press time. We’ve reached out to officials for more information.

Piane was a regular presence on Drag Race in its early years on the LGBTQ network Logo, having first appeared on season 1 in 2009. Piane last filmed with the show on season 8 in 2016, before he publicly battled substance abuse and mental health issues that often played out across his various social media accounts.
The musician and composer often coached the queens through musical challenges, and even sat at the judging panel alongside RuPaul, Michelle Visage, and more throughout his run on the Emmy-winning program.
Production company World of Wonder remembered Piane in a statement earlier this week, writing, “We are devastated to learn of the passing of Lucian Piane. Lucian left behind a legacy of truly beautiful music. May his struggles never dim the memories of a sweet man, a dear friend, and a master musician.”
Visage commented on the post, calling Piane “such a beautiful soul” and “so talented.” Meanwhile, Drag Race season 2 alum and All Stars 6 winner Kylie Sonique Love replied to EW’s Instagram post about Piane’s death with a broken-heart emoji as she typed, “RIP.”

Across the last decade, Piane displayed erratic behavior on social media, including in late 2016 when he shared a series of disturbing messages that included racist slurs. He also shared a naked photo of himself on the social media site.
Piane eventually apologized for the posts, blaming them on a “marijuana psychosis.”

He continued sharing information along his journey to sobriety, and even shared a hopeful update to Instagram in August.
“Sober over a year and getting back in the game,” Piane wrote in the post, which also included a photo of him.
Last week, he courted fan concern for a series of videos on his Instagram profile, including one in which he attempted to brush his teeth while smoking and driving a car.
