Christian Bale, who played Frankensteinās monster in Maggie Gyllenhaalās āThe Bride!ā gave a humble response when asked about the comparison between his take on the character and Jacob Elordiās portrayal of the tragic figure in Guillermo del Toroās Frankenstein. In a recent interview, the English actor shut down any notion of a competition and showered praise on Elordi and his looks.

While speaking with Steve Hargrave to promote āThe Bride!,ā the Oscar winner was asked what he thought about Jacob Elordiās performance as Frankensteinās monster in Frankenstein. When the former asked the latter if there was any competition, Christian Bale replied, āAbsolutely not. To me, thereās no competition.ā
āI donāt see competition whatsoever,ā he added. Bale stressed that he never viewed his fellow actors as rivals unless he personally disliked them. He then praised Elordi, saying he heard the Euphoria actor was āwonderfulā in Guillermo del Toroās film, before stating, āHeās tall, the b******⦠heās ridiculously good looking, how could I ever begin to compete with him?ā
Meanwhile, Hargrave told Bale that the latter won the ādance offā and that he danced better, which the actor appreciated before saying he hadnāt seen Elordiās Frankenstein dance.

In a separate interview with TODAY, Bale praised Elordi, likening him to āAdonis,ā the Greek figure known for his beauty, and pointing out that the latter had the āreal heightā of Frankensteinās monster, while joking that his take on the character was āall fake.ā He also revealed that he hadnāt seen del Toroās Frankenstein on purpose, but commended Elordiās acting, calling him āa hell of a talent.ā
āThe Bride!ā will hit United States theaters on March 6, 2026. Meanwhile, Frankenstein is currently streaming on Netflix. Notably, the former holds a 60% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes, while the latter has a stronger critical score of 85% and an audience score of 94%.
Both films have completely different stories. Maggie Gyllenhaalās film follows Frankensteinās monsterās complicated romance with The Bride, played by Jessie Buckley. Meanwhile, Del Toroās āFrankensteinā explores the troubled relationship between the monster and his creator, Victor Frankenstein.
