College Football Playoff Predictions Week 6: Georgia's Alabama Win Strengthens Playoff Resume
The Georgia Bulldogs took down the Alabama Crimson Tide in the game of Week 6, putting them on a collision course with the College Football Playoff. Can Kirby Smart’s team go all the way?
These College Football Playoff predictions provide a pathway to the postseason and the ultimate glory, powered by PFN’s College Football Playoff Meter.
College Football Playoff Predictions | First Round -
No. 12 Boise State vs. No. 5 Alabama
No. 9 UCLA vs. No. 8 Texas
No. 11 Missouri vs. No. 6 Indiana
No. 10 Ole Miss vs. No. 7 BYU
The James Madison Dukes made headlines on Monday with the news that they’ll join the American Conference for the 2028 season at the latest, but our College Football Playoff predictions still have them behind the Boise State Broncos in the race to represent the Group of Six in the 12-team tournament. Spencer Danielson’s team has a 37.8% probability of making the playoff.
Like it or not, the SEC is primed to place at least five teams in the College Football Playoff. Conversations around that scenario are a little harder to have coming off the back of losses for both the Texas Longhorns and Alabama Crimson Tide, especially given that Steve Sarkisian’s team couldn’t outscore an anemic Oklahoma Sooners offense in the Red River Rivalry.

Nonetheless, Alabama still has an 85.5% chance of reaching the College Football Playoff per PFN’s metrics after the close-fought defeat to the Georgia Bulldogs. Texas has a 71.9% probability, while the Ole Miss Rebels are given a 64.9% chance to make the final 12. The Missouri Tigers round out the SEC contingent with a 41.4% chance of making the playoff.
Entering our College Football Playoff projections for the first time this season is the UCLA Bruins, who knocked off a strong Oregon Ducks team in Week 6 to emerge as a legitimate contender in the Big Ten. The PFN College Football Playoff Meter gives Bob Chesney’s team a 66.9% chance of making the postseason tournament, a far cry from the troubles of recent seasons.
College Football Playoff Predictions | Quarterfinal -
Fiesta Bowl: No. 6 Indiana vs. No. 3 Notre Dame
Peach Bowl: No. 1 Georgia vs. No. 8 Texas
Cotton Bowl: No. 5 Alabama vs. No. 4 Miami (FL)
Rose Bowl: No. 2 Ohio State vs. No. 10 Ole Miss
The Georgia Bulldogs, Ohio State Buckeyes, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and the Miami Hurricanes are the projected top four seeds in our latest College Football Playoff projections. The Bulldogs have the best chance of securing a first-round bye (67.7%), while the Buckeyes have a 39.1% chance of winning the Big Ten.
No team has a higher conference championship chance than Mario Cristobal’s Hurricanes, with PFN’s College Football Playoff Meter giving Miami a 75.8% probability of emerging as ACC champions. Darian Mensah, Malachi Toney, and co. haven’t been troubled on their run through the 2026 season so far, and only Notre Dame proposes to be a potential stumbling block.

Georgia and Texas avoid each other in the regular season, and the Longhorns probably won’t make it to the SEC Championship Game after their Oklahoma loss, so a potential clash in the Peach Bowl would pit Arch Manning against one of the best defenses in the country, something that didn’t work out so well for the Longhorns in Week 6.
Ole Miss’ humiliation at the hands of the Florida Gators in Week 4 cast some doubt over the legitimacy of their SEC and playoff bid, but PFN’s College Football Playoff Meter gives Pete Goulding’s team a 64.9% chance of reaching the final 12. Trinidad Chambliss and Kewan Lacy are comfortably one of the best duos in the country when they’re both healthy.
College Football Playoff Predictions | Semifinal -
Orange Bowl: No. 3 Notre Dame vs. No. 2 Ohio State
Sugar Bowl: No. 1 Georgia vs. No. 5 Alabama
Notre Dame’s toughest matchups are still in front of them, starting with the clash with the BYU Cougars in Week 7, but Marcus Freeman’s team is rounding into form at the right time.
They flexed their offensive firepower against the Stanford Cardinal and were lockdown on defense even without standout cornerback Leonard Moore. They’d need all their defensive playmakers to try to contain the juggernaut that is Jeremiah Smith, but the Irish have the talent to go toe-to-toe with the Buckeyes.

The second semi-final of PFN’s College Football Playoff predictions features a rematch of the Week 6 clash between the Bulldogs and Crimson Tide in what could be the final encounter of a trilogy. Even after the defeat in Tuscaloosa last Saturday, DeBoer’s team has a 43.7% chance of making the SEC title game, while Georgia has an 82.5% title game probability.
The old adage suggests it’s hard to beat the same team twice in a season, so could things be different in a potential semi-final rematch? Unlikely, with the Bulldogs given a 34.4% chance of reaching the College Football National Championship Game, compared to the Crimson Tide at 15.6%.
College Football Playoff National Championship Game -
No. 3 Notre Dame vs. No. 1 Georgia
Georgia is the number one team in the country right now, and they’re likely going to sail through the season and all the way to Las Vegas in that spot.
The Bulldogs have a 20.3% chance to be crowned college football champions at the end of the year, and while Notre Dame poses a real challenge, there are precious few areas where the Fighting Irish have the personnel advantage over the SEC juggernaut.
