Who needs a dog when you have Daniel Radcliffe?

Radcliffe and his *The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins* costar Erika Alexander have quickly bonded, thanks to the protective and calming presence of the *Harry Potter* actor, whom Alexander affectionately refers to as "kid."

"When we were waiting for the pickup on the pilot, he would text me and go, 'I really do hope the show goes. I would be heartbroken if it didn't. I miss you guys,'" Alexander tells host Gerrad Hall on *’s The Awardist* podcast. "He comes into the room and things level, things get calm, like a therapy dog. He can go anywhere, and people relax. That's inherent to who he is."

Hailing from *30 Rock* veterans Robert Carlock and Sam Means, *Reggie Dinkins* follows the comeback attempt of the titular former football player (Tracy Morgan), who was blackballed from the sport after betting on games. Reggie decides that his path back to glory is to make a documentary about his life.

Alexander stars as Reggie's supportive ex-wife and manager, Monica, while Radcliffe plays Arthur Tobin, a prestigious documentarian who is looking to rebound after a disastrous attempt at making a Marvel film.

Radcliffe might be like a therapy dog, but that doesn't mean that he also won't spring into action if he sees another canine looking for trouble.

"He's a natural protector," Alexander says of the actor. "There was a dog that got spooked and sort of bit at Tracy, and [Radcliffe] threw himself in front of Tracy, trying to make sure the dog didn't hurt Tracy. And Tracy was like, 'My brother threw himself in front of me like a train.' And that's Daniel — Daniel makes the sacrifice. That's how he performs, too. He comes in prepared and open, willing to make a sacrifice of self for all."
