Georgia solidifies its grip on No. 1 after winning at Alabama while an ugly rivalry loss to Oklahoma drops Texas to No. 7 in the USA TODAY Sports NCAA Re-Rank 1-138.
It could’ve been worse for Texas, which avoids a more drastic drop after its loss to Oklahoma thanks to its comeback win against Ohio State. But that head-to-head win isn’t enough to keep the Longhorns ahead of the No. 5 Buckeyes.
There’s no debate over Georgia landing at No. 1. The only other contenders for that spot, No. 2 Notre Dame and No. 3 Miami, don’t have the résumés to challenge the Bulldogs after Saturday’s win at Alabama.
Overall, the SEC has four teams in the top eight: Georgia, No. 6 Alabama, Texas and No. 8 Mississippi. The Crimson Tide didn’t move in the rankings after losing by a field goal.

UCLA climbs to No. 9, a nine-spot jump, after beating Oregon 17-15. While the Ducks are frauds, the Bruins have exploded under new coach Bob Chesney and have the schedule to win 10 games in the regular season.
The good news for the SEC: Kentucky is up 20 spots to No. 20 after beating LSU and Oklahoma rises to No. 29 after knocking off the Longhorns. On the other hand, LSU falls to No. 21, Florida falls to No. 33 and Texas A&M is down to No. 55.
It’s the same in the Big Ten. No. 14 Iowa and No. 15 Southern California join UCLA in climbing the rankings and Nebraska sneaks up to No. 25 after nearly beating No. 5 Indiana. But Oregon is down to No. 37, Minnesota drops 16 spots to No. 46 and Penn State falls to No. 57.
