Influencer Spencer Barbosa spoke out after receiving body-shaming comments while on vacation with her fiancé

The content creator shared that during her trip, she asked a stranger to take a photo of her with her fiancé, and when the stranger handed back the camera, she told Barbosa that she looked “chubby”

“I asked you to take a photo of me, not give comments on my body, you weirdo,” she said in response on TikTok

Influencer Spencer Barbosa is speaking out after receiving body-shaming comments while on vacation with her fiancé.

On Tuesday, March 3, the 23-year-old content creator shared that, during her trip, she asked a stranger to take a photo of her with her fiancé, and when the stranger handed back the camera, she told Barbosa that she looked “chubby.”

“I literally smiled because I thought she said cute & then I acc died when I realized,” wrote Barbosa in the caption of a TikTok sharing the experience.

Later in the day, the internet personality took to TikTok again to detail the experience.

“I think I look f---ing fantastic,” she said, showing the photo that the stranger took on the screen. “I asked you to take a photo of me, not give comments on my body, you weirdo. So this is your reminder that your words matter and the things you say to other people matter.”

Barbosa went on to say that she’s a “very, very confident person” — but that if she were an “insecure person,” the comment could’ve “ruined my day.”

“99.9% of the time, the mean things that people say to you is just a projection of themselves,” she continued. “I really hope it was one of those moments for her where she said it out loud and then she's like, ‘Oh my God, why did I say that out loud? That was so weird. I should never say that.’ ”

She also addressed a question she said she received several times: What did she and her fiancé say back?

“We were too stunned to speak,” admitted Barbosa. “If this is chubby, girl, that's sexy.”

Barbosa did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

Barbosa and her fiancé — whom she has only identified as “Connor” — announced their engagement in November, taking to TikTok and Instagram to share sweet snaps from the beachy proposal.

Though she has kept much of their relationship private, Barbosa has shared that Connor works in finance and that they first met when they were 11 years old.

In a previous YouTube video, she shared that the two attended the same high school but “didn't talk” — reuniting after Barbosa slid into his DMs after moving schools.

“I’d never once wondered if he actually liked me,” she shared. “The right guy is not going to make you wonder."
