Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sanchez, have been part of the high-profile fashion circle for some time now. If reports are to be believed, the power couple has paid over $10 million to sponsor the fashion world’s ritziest event, the 2026 Met Gala. It is a charity event and fundraiser for The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez have reportedly paid at least $10 million to sponsor the Met Gala. In fact, it could reach $20 million, according to another source. The biggest fashion event raising money for the Anna Wintour Costume Center at the Metropolitan Museum of Art is set for May 4, with the theme “Costume Art.”

By sponsoring the ball, the couple also became the honorary co-chairs of fashion’s biggest night, alongside Nicole Kidman, Beyoncé, Venus Williams, and Wintour. Talking about the sponsors, Wintour told CNN last year that Sánchez would be “a wonderful asset to the museum and to the event,” calling her “a great lover of costume and obviously of fashion.” “We’re very grateful for her incredible generosity,” Wintour said, adding, “so we’re thrilled she’s part of the night.” But it seems not everyone is happy with the move.

“The Bezoses are where the American dream is at right now for status, wealth and style,” former Vogue editor William Norwich told Page Six. “They display conspicuous consumption [and] they have the ‘AWOK’ — the Anna Wintour OK,” he added.

Even a frequent Met Gala guest and fashion insider expressed their disappointment, saying they are “heartbroken.” They added, “It’s being able to buy yourself into [the good graces of] Anna and the Met.” Many celebrities are expected to grace the event. But the likes of Zendaya and Meryl Streep might not be present at this year’s event amid Bezos’ takeover, according to Hello! Magazine.
