A 42-year-old woman got married to her longtime partner at a hospice care center shortly after she was admitted for heart failure.
One week after Katerina Lavuova was admitted to Wakefield Hospice, she and her partner of 12 years, Stanley Srvcek, decided that they wanted to tie the knot — no matter what the future held for them, Wakefield Hospice shared in a news release.
So, the staff at the U.K. facility sprang into action and spent hours organizing food, drinks, flowers and outfits. They even transformed one of the facility’s rooms into a beautiful wedding venue.

“It just felt like the right thing to do,” Katerina said. “It’s unfortunate that we are marrying in these circumstances, but at the same time, we just knew it was the right thing for us.”
“I have learned that people don’t just come here to die, they can come here to have happiness,” she continued. “And no matter what the future holds, or how much time we have, today is the most special day for both of us — thank you all so much.”
To make the couple’s day even more special, Katerina’s 10-year-old son, Peter, got to be by her side every step of the way, per the Wakefield Express.
