Brandon Marshall shared a video of his son running outside at 2 a.m.
The video sparked backlash, with many criticizing the late-night discipline and Marshall's approach to parenting

Former NFL player Brandon Marshall is addressing the backlash to his recent video featuring his son Zí, 11.
On Wednesday, June 17, the 42-year-old former wide receiver shared a video on his Instagram in which he is driving alongside his son Zi, 11, at 2 a.m. In the clip, Marshall films from the front seat of his car as his son slowly runs next to him. Marshall shares his three kids, twins Zí and Zigí, 11, and son Zö, 7, with ex-wife Mishi Nogami.
"Discipline, correction is good. Even at 2 in the morning, we run," he says to Zí in the video. "I don't got to put my hands on you, but I'm training you up to be a warrior. I'm training you to be a leader. To serve, to have discipline. To be better than me."

"If you don't start running, we're going to go three miles. So you better start running because you don't know when I'm going to tell you to stop," he said. "You don't want to listen? You run. We work."
He captioned the video, which has 200,000 views, "This is my son not my friend..."
In response to the post, many commenters expressed concern.

"Lead by example sir, show him how to do it. Don't be driving and asking him to run. Thats a different message," one person wrote. Marshall responded to this comment, saying that he couldn't run at the moment.
"I just had a procedure on my back. I can't run. But if you know me you know I lead from the front in ALL rooms," he wrote.
"That's family business, not Instagram business," another commented. "That's your way not my way," Marshall replied.
PEOPLE reached out to Marshall for comment on the backlash to the video, and he responded, "I would like to add that I'll be sleeping on a yacht for the next week in the French Riviera. Oh and also Jesus is GOOD." He then shared a screenshot of this exchange on his Instagram Stories, which he subsequently deleted.
In a video on his Stories, he explained his decision to delete, referencing his wife Kristen Jacques.
"Fellas, I'm talking to the fellas. My lady came upstairs and said, 'That was tacky.' She's probably going to say this is tacky, and why am I posting this? I said, 'Baby, I'm just trying to play into the social media,' and she didn't like it. I took the post down. Fellas, your wife, your lady, your significant other, nah, nah, your wife, is your north star. So when they say something, you probably should listen, because sometimes you go a little too far, so I took it down. I'm being soft. I need to go run."
