Brian Fluharty / Getty ImagesYesterday was Father's Day, which meant that tons of celebrities took to social media to pay tribute to the various dads in their lives. And whether you're a celeb or not, you'll know it's not unusual to shout out an ex on Mother's Day and Father's Day, particularly if you're on good terms as co-parents. (For example, see Jennifer Garner's sweet Father's Day post for Ben Affleck, whom she separated from over a decade ago.)With that in mind, if a celebrity seemingly passes up an opportunity to shout out their co-parent, it can often raise eyebrows among fans — which is exactly what's just happened with exes Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady.

For context, Tom and Gisele divorced in October 2022 after nearly 14 years of marriage. Together, they share two children, Benjamin, 16, and Vivian, 13. From a previous relationship, Tom also has an 18-year-old son, Jack, whom Gisele helped raise from birth.Though there was a lot of chatter around the possible reasons for the split, Gisele said in 2023 that she and Tom simply grew apart, maintaining that there was no cheating and no rumored "ultimatum" over his NFL retirement. Since the divorce, Gisele has remarried, quietly tying the knot with her longtime jiu-jitsu instructor, Joaquim Valente. (Tom, as far as we know, is single.)

@gisele / Viainstagram.comAs well as sweet photos with their baby, the post included multiple pics of Joaquim with Gisele and Tom's kids, including one of (seemingly) Vivian hugging him and another of Benjamin and Joaquim standing back-to-back. "Happy Father’s Day @joaquimvalente ! Thank you for leading by example, and for the values you embody, love, humility, integrity, discipline, kindness and consistency," she wrote in the caption. "You are an incredible role model. We are all so grateful for you, and we love you so much."

Gisele also used the post to pay tribute to her own father, Valdir Bündchen, thanking him for his "unconditional love, wisdom, and support through every stage of my life." She notably did not mention Tom or include any photos of him.

@gisele / Viainstagram.comThis comes after Tom publicly celebrated Gisele on Mother's Day with an IG Story last month. And while lots of people are outraged by the "brutal" and "bleak" Father's Day snub — with one viral X comment going as far as to suggest that Tom "is going to lose it" over the post — others think it should be the norm.

"Normalise not celebrating exes... Their kids can celebrate fathers day with them," one X user wrote, mentioning the fact that Kris Jenner always makes a point of publicly celebrating her and her daughters' exes on Father's Day. "I always cringe at Kris Jenner posts for that," they added.Calling out the intense backlash to Gisele's post, another X user wrote: "She’s no longer married to Tom and Tom’s not HER father so what’s the problem? FFS."Interestingly, plenty of Reddit users appear to be in Gisele's corner, too, suggesting that it's "perfectly fine" for her not to make a point of publicly celebrating her ex. "This shouldn’t be controversial," one user wrote. "Their kids together are teenagers, they can celebrate him themselves."

Maddie Meyer / Getty Images"Not everyone posts their exes on days like this," highlighted someone else. "It’s nice when people do, but it’s not for everyone. She probably sent him a private text or something."

Others have defended Gisele by highlighting what she's said in the past about taking on the brunt of parenting duties while Tom's "focus [was] on his career" throughout their marriage. "Anyone who has read Gisele Bündchen's biography knows how much she dedicated herself to her children," one X user wrote. "I think it's well deserved."

Michael Stewart / Getty ImagesFor what it's worth, Tom has previously talked openly about his past failings as a dad, saying that he's "screwed up a lot as a parent." Defending his focus on his career for the majority of his kids' childhoods, he said in 2025: "Being a great football player didn’t make me a great dad, but how I became a great player certainly had an impact—from showing up day in and day out, to doing whatever it took to get better, be successful, be a role model, and to provide."
