After moving back to the U.K. in late August, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle “have different professional priorities,” a source told The Telegraph.

Joint public appearances like one planned for October 15 in Nottingham, England, will be “relatively rare,” an insider added.

While Harry’s priority “is his philanthropic work and public service,” Meghan is focused on their children, her lifestyle brand As Ever, and making a return to acting.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will undertake their first joint appearance in the U.K. on October 15—but it won’t be a regular occurrence like it was when the two were working royals, The Telegraph reported. For Meghan, the outlet added, “royal-style public engagements were no longer a primary focus,” and, as a source put it, Harry and Meghan “have different professional priorities.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, moved back to the U.K. in late August. In the immediate aftermath of their move, both were helping their son and daughter adjust to life in a new country, as well as at a new school. Since then, Harry has made numerous public appearances, and Meghan’s been seen out more in the public eye, as well.

Harry’s professional priority “is his philanthropic work and public service,” the source said. “Her focus is on her family and children, followed by her business [As Ever], followed by rebooting her acting career.”

“Her public appearances will be relatively rare,” the insider continued. “She is reading a lot of scripts at the moment. If she has time left after all of that, she will do some charity work. But she’s not a working royal—her day isn’t organized around a program pulled together by a private secretary. She’s a full-time mom and entrepreneur, and that alone takes up a lot of time and work.”

Meghan is also bringing her lifestyle brand As Ever to the U.K. by the end of 2026, The Telegraph reported. Heretofore, the brand has only been available in the U.S.

Harry and Meghan’s visit to Nottingham, England, on Thursday is a symbolic one. It’s also where the couple made their first joint appearance following their engagement announcement in late 2017, and they’ll spend the day there making charitable visits. But, as a source doubled down, “These joint charitable engagements will not be a regular part of their work. Don’t expect to see them doing this kind of thing together very often. A handful of times a year, perhaps.”

Thursday’s visit “obviously won’t be on the same scale as 2017,” a source said. “We can’t close down roads and put up barricades for walkabouts and don’t have the pull and the clout with the police even if we wanted to. Rather than walking around pressing the flesh, it’s about putting focus on the room they are in and the causes they want to promote.”

“There will be less handshaking,” the insider added. “They don’t have that same responsibility to do that kind of thing anymore.”

In a strongly worded letter released last month on behalf of King Charles, it was reiterated that Harry and Meghan will not be returning to the working royal roles they gave up in 2020 to move to Montecito, California. After their move back to Britain in August, friends told The Sunday Times that the Sussexes are “happy and settled,” with a source telling the outlet that Meghan will “definitely” resume acting, the career she left to marry into the royal family in 2018. A friend said Meghan “has been sent lots of scripts, which she’s looking at.”

“She’s looking at loads of acting offers,” a friend told Hello!. “She’s meeting a lot of writers and creatives and reading a lot of scripts. If there’s anything that stands out as being amazing, then she’ll do it.”

A source told People that the duchess is “keeping busy, as she always does, and staying in close contact with her friends in Montecito. She does miss home—and her mom [Doria Ragland]. They’re planning to come back for the holidays. Meghan’s looking forward to seeing her friends and making plans with them already.”

Of the U.K. move, the insider said Meghan “has a great attitude about it all,” and Archie and Lilibet “have adjusted well, and that’s the most important thing to her.” Now that the kids are settled, Harry and Meghan are “both excited to focus more on their work and the projects that matter to them,” a source said—even if they’re different in scale and scope.
