Sexyy Red claims $500,000 worth of belongings were stolen during a birthday retreat she hosted for her mom in 2025

The rapper is suing her former security guard for negligence, alleging he failed to secure the rented property

The security guard denies involvement and previously filed a breach of contract suit for unpaid wages from 2023

Rapper Sexyy Red was robbed of $500,000 worth of belongings after a birthday bash she was hosting for her mom last year went awry.

The "Get It Sexyy" rapper's burglary was revealed in court documents filed in April as part of an ongoing lawsuit against her former security guard.

In the filing, the star (né Janae Wherry) says she rented a mansion in Florida in January 2025 to host a "birthday retreat" for her mom, according to documents obtained by PEOPLE. She brought along security guard Carl Thompson to provide protection for her family and friends during the get-together, and Thompson's request that he bring along three additional personnel to more "effectively" do his job was granted.

On Jan. 12, 2025, a masked person entered the rented home through an unlocked door and stole $500,000 worth of property, including necklaces, charms, rings, bracelets, watches and designer handbags. The filing accuses Thompson of negligence, claiming he left the door unlocked.

"I personally terminated Mr. Thompson's duties as a security guard following an incident where a mansion rented by Sexyy Red to celebrate her mother's birthday was burglarized by a lone subject who walked directly to an unlocked door while the party was out celebrating on yachts," Jeremy Carter, a spokesperson for Wherry and in-house consultant for the star and her Rebel Music label, told PEOPLE in a statement. "Mr. Thompson was responsible for securing the property, however, failed in his duties to do so."

In a statement shared with PEOPLE, Thompson's attorney Mason Richard Wolfe said Thompson "expressly denies anything to do with the burglary."

"The police investigated the matter and filed no charges against him," Wolfe said. "The only reason Sexyy Red filed the counterclaim regarding the burglary against my client is to try and avoid paying her employee what she agreed to pay them."

Thompson filed a breach of contract suit against Wherry, 28, and her management company in August 2025, claiming he was owed $80,500 in unpaid wages from 2023, according to court documents viewed by PEOPLE.

The January 2025 burglary was first revealed by Wherry in a counterclaim against Thompson that she filed on March 3. The counterclaim alleges Wherry hired a private investigator to look into the burglary, and Thompson failed a subsequent polygraph examination.

Weeks later, Thompson filed a motion to dismiss Wherry's counterclaim, alleging that he had "no control over the premises." In her April response, the rapper claims that by bringing in three additional guards, Thompson was given all the resources he needed to "provide reasonable security measures."

"Only after Mr. Thompson was terminated, and rather than walk away, he sued us for alleged unpaid wages from years ago," Carter's statement read. "Sexyy Red is mourning the loss of her close friend, Tay Keith, and we are more focused on her mental state at this time rather than ambulance chasing lawyers trying to shake down Sexyy Red and her label."

The Plantation Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.
