Ego Nwodim responded to Shane Gillis’ Saturday Night Live monologue in which he said “women just dress like whores” at the gym

Nwodim posted a mirror selfie reacting to Gillis’ remarks to her Instagram Stories

Her post comes after fellow comedian Dan Levy criticized Gillis for using his platform to “objectify women”

Ego Nwodim spoke out following Shane Gillis’ controversial Saturday Night Live monologue.

Gillis, a three-time SNL host, 38, returned to Studio 8H on Saturday, Oct. 10, and delivered a targeted monologue that sparked online backlash. In his opening remarks, the Tires star commented on how women dress at the gym, saying, “I haven’t been to the gym in so long, I didn’t know women just dress like whores now?”

On Monday, Oct. 12, SNL alum Nwodim, 38, posted a mirror selfie of herself at the gym to her Instagram Stories, along with the caption, “whore reporting for duty.”

In the monologue Gillis continued, “Look, I’m sorry, there’s no other way to describe [it]. Have you seen it? I’ve seen it. The shorts. Have you seen the shorts? Those neon, they’re like artificial bait-colored. And the wrinkles go around the cheeks and all combined at the butthole. And don’t look, you’re not allowed to look. For real, don’t look because they are filming. I’m in the background of like 10 TikToks right now.”

PEOPLE reached out to representatives for Nwodim and Gillis. Earlier in the day, PEOPLE reached out to reps for SNL, who did not immediately respond.

The SNL alum is one of many who have reacted to Gillis’ monologue. Her post comes a day after fellow comedian Dan Levy also took to Instagram to share his concern over Gillis’ comments.

“Women wearing short shorts to the gym does not make them whores. It makes the men calling them whores, misogynists. There’s a difference there,” the Schitt’s Creek star, 43, said. “By the way, I’ve seen more men’s nipples in the gym than I’ve ever seen women showing their bodies off.”

“I’m speechless that something like that can exist on live national television,” he continued. “And to be perfectly honest, more men need to be standing up in opposition to it because it’s complacency that has created the environment in which women are sexually assaulted, and it’s a ‘conversation’ as opposed to a crime.”

Levy urged that “this is not a women’s issue,” and “men need to be defending women more.”

“Because the more that men objectify women in the media, the more that other men see them as objects and treat them as objects. They are not objects,” he added. “They are superior human beings to men, OK?”

Gillis’ remarks come after his previous SNL hosting gigs in February 2024 and March 2025. In 2019, the comedian was announced as a cast member on the late-night sketch show for its 45th season but was fired before the season began due to past racial and homophobic comments.
