US says Bolivia anti-government protests pose grave threat to democracy

LA PAZ, June 23 - Efforts to overthrow the government in Bolivia represent a "grave threat" to constitutional order and democratic stability, the U.S. State Department said in a joint statement with other regional countries on Tuesday.

A "violent minority" seeks to disregard the will expressed by majority of Bolivians in recent elections, the State Department said in the statement, which was also issued by the governments of Argentina, Bolivia, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guyana, Honduras, Jamaica, Panama, Paraguay and Peru.
