- Savannah Guthrie was absent from *Today* this week.

- She is currently in Los Angeles in meetings for the new *Wordle* game show.

- She will reportedly return to *Today* on Monday, June 22.

Savannah Guthrie has been missing from the recent broadcasts of *Today*, but for good reason.

Guthrie was noticeably absent from the Wednesday and Thursday episodes of the morning show while reportedly "on assignment." Her cohost, Craig Melvin, and fill-in anchor, Sheinelle Jones, then revealed more details on her whereabouts at the top of Thursday's show.

"Savannah starts production meetings on the *Wordle* game show coming to NBC," Melvin shared, with Jones adding, "It's coming! Yeah, I'm excited for her."

Jones also wondered if Guthrie could be playing hooky.

"Perhaps Savannah is amongst the huge crowd taking over the streets of New York today for the Knicks' victory parade," she joked.

*Wordle*, the game show, was greenlit in May and will be produced by Universal Television Alternative Studio in partnership with Jimmy Fallon’s Electric Hot Dog and *The New York Times*. Guthrie, a longtime fan and player of the game, will host.

Guthrie shared photos on her Instagram Stories from Los Angeles on Wednesday, posting green and yellow hearts over a *Wordle* puzzle and writing, "Coming soon." She also posted a snap of a "SG" nameplate, seemingly from a conference room.

While across the country in the Golden State, Guthrie decided to visit her friend and *Today* colleague Carson Daly on the set of his show *The Voice*.

"When in LA, see your bestie @carsondaly," she shared over a photo of her and Daly at *The Voice* studios. She also sat in one of the show's iconic red chairs, writing, "In @carsondaly's house."

The West Coast visit is hopefully a welcome respite for Savannah, who has had a tough year as the search for her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, continues. Nancy went missing from her home in Catalina Foothills, a suburb of Tucson, Ariz., on Feb. 1 and has yet to be found.

Guthrie opened up about returning to *Today* amid the tragedy. (She rejoined the morning news desk in April and guest cohosted* Jenna & Sheinelle* for the first time on June 8.)

"You know, it's really hard to come back, and I've been trying so hard to hold it together, and I promise I will," she told friend and 4th hour host Jenna Bush Hager at the time. "The show, and this hour especially, is about joy. But having you and all my, I mean, everyone —the people behind the scenes, people in my ear, the producers, our castmates. When I see you in the morning, I know that you see me, no matter what is going on. Sometimes that's almost too much because I feel like to do the job, I gotta keep it together, pull it together, you know?"

She added that "it's not easy" coming to work each day, but "it's something to do, and it brings me a lot of joy to be with everybody."
